I've searched the WWW over and can find out how to make a screen saver for Ubuntu. I have an animation program that I can use to create .avi, .mov, png, etc. But I can't find out how to convert anything to screen savers. Any ideas???

Linux screensavers (much like ***dows screensavers) are actually compiled programs just like any other software, only they are mostly non-interactive.
I personally don't know of any "screensaver makers" for linux.
^quoting myself from here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=492432
Screensavers are not something you can convert to from images or movies.
They are programs even in other OSes. The software you find for these other OSes that
"convert" the files are just combining a program file with a data file aka your images/videos.

Well that sucks! Anybody got a tutorial on how the Ubuntu default screen savers were created?

Id be interested in this also. It would be fun to learn how to program your own screensavers... Right now Im just trying how to change "Hufo's Smoke" to have more smoke, and one constant color. So far, my efforts have been fruitless, I haven't even been able to find where the screensavers are located yet :D

You could always get the source of one of the many gnome screensavers (which are used in the Ubuntu Linux distribution) and tinker around with it on your own. Perhaps if you could even generate interest in getting folks together to develop and screensaver programming toolkit with a GUI for Linux. That's usually how things get done if someone wants something that doesn't exist. ^_^

Well I got hook by the conversation and topic. And found this link. Although is not fully related to the post is has some good documentation and shows what other penguins had done to fix problems some how similar to the one in this trend.

hope it helps at least like a reference being point.

parker13 made some screensavers for gnome, maybe you could drop him a pm and ask him how he did it. You can find the screensavers in this link: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=516526
They are actually quite good, i installed them on my desktop.

What part of similar is it that you did not understant. not to be rude but I did mention "similar" and "is not fully related to the post"
Similar - marked by correspondence or resemblance.
Now the intend of the post was to show them that people find problems just like you said and they see a way to create a solution just like the link. Now I use the link 'cause is was not full related but some how similar . Similar as it as something to do with screen savers. But that is why I mention that in my post.
As a favor don't get to kakhy for something I mention](*,):-s:-({|=. and even if you do not like. simple as erase it, you are part of the ubuntu forum staff.

Erasing user posts for no reason is not what I do.
I was letting you know that IMHO editing screensaver settings in in no way "similar" to making your own screensavers from scratch.
I'm sure you were just trying to help, but there are dozens of threads around about changing settings and this is not one of them.
Stay on topic.

Wow lots of posts, I don't have the first clue as far as programming goes. What I'm looking to do it make a screen saver version of this:

Or something similar, since we can't use animated avatars, I'd like to contribute to Ubuntu Community/Forums somehow I thought that maybe this could be the way I can do that. Maybe I'll animate a "commercial" for Ubuntu that can be emailed to family and friends to promote Ubuntu.

Still requires programming like I mentioned before.
Grab some source code and start dissecting it.
