Is there a way, when developing an icon theme to open applications and see what icons different buttons look for, so you can know which sym links to make?

When i am trying to find out what icons I need to make still, I usually "edit" the menu to see what icons each uses.

but say in firefox, in the human theme the buttons pictured in the screenshot would have ok and x icons over the buttons. How can I find out which icons these buttons are looking for?

Those are not part of the icon theme - they are part of the GTK theme. If you would like to learn how to customize one, the link is in my sig. ^_^

You cannot change the buttons in firefox without using a GTK theme. In other words, icons cannot change the buttons themselves. If you would like to learn how to make a GTK theme, then you can use the site in my sig.
