when i run games fullscreen with beryl activated my computer locks up so badly a hard reboot is the only option. the screen goes black as usual, and a mouse pointer appears in the middle of the screen, but then nothing, no sound no images no nothing. also, when in this state the mouse moves but it is the only thing that will respond, i can't exit the program or restart x.
when i right click the beryl icon in the tray and select metacity as window manager all fullscreen games work perfectly, no problems at all, but i don't want to have to do this whenever i run a game, especially as i like using avant-window-navigator which requires beryl(or compiz but same problem with compiz)
does anyone know how i can fix this problem?
also, more information, normally when i start a fullscreen game through wine in metacity the cursor that appears is a standard windows cursor. when the error occurs a windows cursor never appears, only the standard ubuntu cursor.
thanks for the help.

Try using Compiz Fusion with my latest workarounds plug-in. It should be in Trev's repo by now.

I just installed compiz-fusion and ditched beryl, I had fullscreen problems when running beryl. My solution was a script that turned beryl off, launched the game, and turned it back on when the game was closed.

So, if I can run a game with compiz fusion running, does it affect my frame rates? noticibly? Is it still a good idea to turn it off, or is the footprint small enough that I shouldnt bother?
