The volume put out through the analog audio jacks on my Intel Mac Mini is too low. I have to jack up the receiver's output to max, and even thats not enough on some audio sources.

I've tried the same mpegs under OS X and Feisty on the same box with vlc , and its just not as loud on Linux.

I have the volume at max on the gnome volume control , the pcm silder, and the media player itself.

I'm running 2.6.20-16. Someone suggested that 2.6.22 might help.

Is anything known about a volume issue for the Mac?

run alsamixer and check the levels in that.
