Problem with UT2004: nothing happens

I just installed the GOTY version of the ut2004. The problem is that it read that "type ut to start the game". When I type ut it says that command not found, then I tried to go to the game folder and there was file named ut but when I click it nothing happens. Any suggestions?

i don't know exactly but you try running /path/to/game/folder/ut

It says in the terminal "ut: 29: Syntax error: Bad substitution"

can you give the output of

ls

in the terminal in the game directory?

I have no idea where you read that you need to type ut to start the game, but to start ut2004 the command is "ut2004".

Try that and see if it helps :)

There isn't a GOTY version of UT2k4... what you possibly mean is UT99 and if so, you need to buy the game anyway...
