I know this has been offered many times before but in most cases it has not been really 'free'.

So here I am, offering my services to you - free of charge in every imaginable way.

500MB of webspace
500MB bandwidth per month

For more details please visit http://www.vmhost.co.uk

Proud to be using Ubuntu Hoary as the server OS

Cool, I'm impressed :)

Though I gotta warn ya, your 256Kb upload will be squashed in no time ;)

Can I set up a Backports mirror on it? (j/k ;) )

I know the speed is pretty slow but its the best I can offer at the moment.

I had already setup the mirror for ubuntu release on it last week but as you know, the d/l speed was pretty slow so had to remove it.

If anyone is interested in putting any small files (scripts etc) that they would like to share with fellow ubuntu users here then they are most welcome

256kbps upload... damn, thats really slow for a server. I got 10Mbps upload on my home pipe. Too bad it's strictly for normal home useage only, like all other home broadband deals, so I'd lose the connection if I put up a server.

How come the pipe is that thin? Is it a home connection? If so did you double check if you are allowed to offer services through it?

Yes, I've checked with the ISP and I'm allowed to have a server offering services. In any case, I'm not making any income out of it.

Man! Really, really cool thing to offer. I actually just tagged a domain name and host earlier today (for a princely sum, of course), but I wanted you to know you're offer does not go unappreciated. I love open-source people!

Love 'em!

Hi Kris,

I have thought about providing this feature but haven't figured out a way of giving access to the control panel and other management features using the current VHCS control panel. Once I figure it out, I will make it available.

Anyway, I know .co.uk domains may not be for everyone but in the UK they are extremely cheap (3GBP per year).

If you one day decide to close this host ?? Can you guarantee that this server will be online everytime?

Hi Kris,

You need to disable the passive mode feature on your FTP client software.

Can I encourage you in using the Forum on the site and/or the ticket system in your control panel for any issues?

Thanks
