I've read through the FAQ's and what not... well... skimmed maybe moreso than read... but still :)
here's my question... since I've picked "do not show my post count" (mainly because I don't think it matters...) why does it show up in my public profile?

I see what you mean....but your "bean" count is hidden in the thread.

true... but it doesn't really address what the setting says that it's supposed to do.

It only shows in threads by design. There is no plans to change it since its been like that for almost 2 years. Sorry.

I apoligize if I'm way over my paygrade here... but, your reasoning for not fixing a bug* because "it has been there for two years" is rediculous. I will code this bug out for you if you like, all you'd have to do would be wrapping some logic around weather to print anything between and including <fieldset class="fieldset"> and </fieldset> in member.php.
Or be honest and admit that this is one of the things that you had to compromise on because it's a proprietary system. It's not perfect, and it never can be because it cannot be unique and does not follow the principles of the GNU manifesto. Free software can only compete with proprietary software when people use it.
Ubuntu supporters should know this first hand! Once Ubuntu's community got to the point where it really started to shift people off of windows and onto Linux, and more recently not even users but manufacturers as well, people really started to take notice. How can you guys, as forum masters, support both the open source community and proprietary software; when you're "leading" a community who is looking to completly abandon closed and proprietary software?
Again, I apoligize if you are not open to public critizism like this... I have no issues if you would rather delete this post.
* a bug is anything that does not work how it should, so yes, a setting saying it will do one thing when it doesn't is either a bug in the code, or a bug in the wording. Both, as I'm sure you would agree with, equally important.

It's not that big a deal, is it?

well... no, it's not really. But it still is a bug, and Linux can never compete with Windows if it's not at least a supeior quality than it, otherwise why would anyone switch? We should care as much about little bugs as wel do about big bugs... but maybe I'm just to passionate when it comes to creating a better quality of life in the digital age.

So, it's just the principle?

This isn't a Linux bug. This is a forum bug. And a forum bug in proprietary forum software. I don't see what this has to do with Linux at all.

Yeah, the principle of an known bug that's unresolved because it's a proprietary system, and that an open source community forum is using a proprietary system! Surely we have the people here willing and able to make a better forum.

You are representing Linux to a group of people who are considering to switch. Wouldn't you want them to have the full experience of open software when it has anything to do with ubuntuforums as well as ubuntu? I mean, this is where a lot of your users go for information.
It's pretty much the same philosophy as running this site off of IIS boxes.

I've read hundreds of anti-Linux rants from people who have tried Ubuntu and left dissatisfied. Not a single one of them cited the forum's refusal to fix minor bugs in the forum software as being a contributing factor in leaving Ubuntu for Windows. Sorry, but your line of reasoning doesn't jive with reality.

That's not even close to what's happening here. I've been using Linux of the last 7 years and I don't plan on changing one bit.
I'm just saying how I feel about a representative of the Linux community using proprietary forum software, seems backwards.
