I read some threads where people make and sell posters and shirts with the Ubuntu trademark and logo on it.
I could potentially offer that too. Though i wonder if that is allowed.
I'd also like to know if it's allowed for trademarks of other Linux distributions or GPL software in general.
Does anyone happen to know about this?

AFAIK, you need to get some clearance from the marketing team before you start offering T-shirts and things like that. There is some level of advocacy where you can get away with it, but not for commercial use.

See the Marketing Wiki, and the Trademark rules.

Other Distributions vary from very permissive, to down right predatory in their trademarked material. It's always best to ask first, even if you are just doing some grass roots advocacy.
