I'm not sure how I like having this on the bottom of the front page. I mean...the biggest word is "automatix sucks". It looks really childish IMO.

Oh come on, it's statistics. Take it or leave it. ツ

(This is not an opinion of the forums staff team... in fact, you could argue it's not an opinion at all.)

Interesting new feature, imho :)

I thought it was a pretty cool feature--we can't control what people search for, though.

Indeed.

Of course not...I still think it looks a tad silly, but if other people like it then by all means keep it.

It does not help the mod's create an air of impartiality having automatix sucks sitting their at the start of the list.

Just one of them there coincidences...

Though I'm more of a believer in synchronicity myself. :)

The underlying pattern here is that more folks searched for Automatixsuck than other items.
Thus it is at the head of the list.

I appreciate that & I'm not questioning its validity in any shape or form.

I too think that it is just kind of funny... :)

I just noticed that. Interesting. Strange search topic....

My guess is that someone searched for it once, then someone else saw it in the list and clicked it, and it has just kept snowballing.

EDIT - meant to be "optiplex" maybe?

Hmm, does this mean that clicking on the link doesn't raise the click-count of the keyword?
In that case, no snowball effect :p

Hmmmm, Ive seen this kind of behavior before on other sites that track the search terms.

It theoretically could happen I suppose - odd search terms that have no significant meaning.

I don't think it's an accident at all. I think it is all part of a sinister conspiracy to give trolls a bad name.

What about antidisestablishmentarianism as a search item? It showed no results (but is now in with a chance)

Eh.....I dont see how Automatix Sucks gives trolls a bad name. It might give someone else a bad name, but certainly not a forum troll.

Oh, okay then. Never mind. I'm off to click the most commonly searched words again.

I agree with you 100%. Permitting such immaturity to exist on the forums' main webpage is inexcusable.

As of this posting, "automatix sucks" is no longer the top search item in the list. I guess users are getting tired of playing with the search tool.

On a serious note, I think this whole thing was blown out of proportion. Is it childish and unprofessional that people noticed that we now have a list of the most-searched-for items and decided to play around with the results a little, specifically to berate one piece of software? Yes. Does it matter? Not really.

Anyone, whether a new user or a veteran, looking at that list could tell that something was happening behind the scenes and make the mental leap that some sort of game was being played. It happens everywhere. You ever drive past a sign in front of a gas station or movie theater and see that someone moved the letters around? Was that childish and wrong? Did you laugh?

My bottom line: I wonder if, in the process of being against something that is truly worth opposing, sometimes we, as humans, find ourselves choosing to be for something that is not worth supporting.

If I drove past a McDonald's that had its billboard message stating "Burger King Sucks" (or some other such insolence), I would indeed consider it to be owing to some childish prank. If it remained that way day after day, however, I would certainly question the maturity and professionalism of the McDonald's management; particularly if they laughed it off and disclaimed any responsibility after being notified of the misuse of their board.

So we disagree. Thanks for sharing your opinion. We have had a polite exchange of ideas and reached an impasse. Let's move on, agreeing to disagree.
