Just wondering has there been a discussion about the number of stickies in each forum. In beginner talk its now 8. 3 are How Tos 2 others are Billboards for some other section of the forum. I get 20 non sticky post per page and seeing 28% of the page repeated over and over is a bit much. Just wondering if I'm the only one that would like to see a limit on the number of stickies in a forum.

The subject has come up among the staff and it was discussed in a Forum Council meeting.

The general consensus was that we would all be informed, and be able to discuss whether posts could be stickies, or if they should be unstuck etc.

I'd advise you to use the REPORT button on any sticky you think should be unstuck and we'll have a think about it :)

The problem is, there's just so much useful information people need, we know people don't read many stickies, and its just hard to decide which is most important and what limit to put on it.

Why not create a beautiful interactive sticky:

-Create a main post with a "table of contents" followed by one post per content.
-Make each table of content entry a link to the corresponding post (=content) below.

If you have two stickies on the same subject. Do you think twice as many will read will read one or the other. I give these examples from beginner talk.

Other forums I've been to has done this. I think it's a great idea.

Beginner talk has a new sticky. Really cafe stuff: to Automatix or not to Automatix. But my count that makes 5 1/2 out of the 9 stickies in that section about installing this or that or anything.

Just my personal feelings the beginner talk section needs 1 sticky giving the Rules of the Road and How to get help, The other sticky on the Beginner Team seem appropriate for this section. The other 7 could be unstuck, merged or moved to the appropriate section. I'll get off my soap box now. But I'll be back. :)
