I did installed the latest driver of ATI: 8.39.4 driver on my T43 laptop (Mobility x300):

- It still buggy (mouse display some little with box all around my screen and compiz does not work).
- You got a very nice (and big) "AMD Testing use only" on the right down corner of your (two) screen ...

It's the latest stable driver of ATI ... :o

Quite fun ... If someone (of AMD team?) can help me on this ...

This is wierd.. i never got compiz working on the old driver, this one gets the direct rendering and all those nifty "none to the power of two pixels" and "textures from pixmaps" when i start compiz. However.. every gtk like application gets completely messed up.. most of the compiz functions dont work and if i mess around in the compiz configuration tool, i have to do a hard restart because everything freezes.. but i never get that logo everybody is talking about. I guess these ATI drivers are not up to standards as usual.. :(

Anyway, I'm back to the ati free driver :)

all work fine with compiz, except Dual-Head and some little fonts problems, see my other post:

Yes, the out of box driver is working fine on my IBM T43 with the xorg.conf used in my previous post

I got almost all option of GLDesktop working fine for me. You use an IBM t43 with ATI x300 ?

yeah i see the x300 and a number of older ATI cards are supported.. however with my ATI x1700, that driver wont work at all. I wish that the ATI linux crew would actually test their drivers before releasing them, and release them only on working cards. + acknowledge that ati x1700 actually exists, there is no information whatsoever on the ati driver sites about this card. amazing. i realize that what i'm saying right now is like miss world saying "i wish for world peace" Its never going to happen.
