View Full Version : Paper Size

When I get full circle magazine, I enjoy reading it immensely, but it seems like it's formatted for A4 size paper. Far be it from me to be the Ugly American, but, frankly, A4 paper is almost non-existent around here.

Is there a way the magazine could be formatted for Letter Size paper also, or perhaps some discussion on formatting to fit in the various Office-style programs.

Thanks

It is unlikely that this would be possible, as it would mean remaking the whole design again. This would be a lot of effort for our editor, and he already has to much to do :)

If you would like to discuss it more, come to one of our meetings, listed on the last page of the magazine.

It is always a possibility, but at this point we have a bit of momentum, it may be hard or inconveniant to change!

...Far be it from me to be the Ugly American...

what's this mean? I'm American, and I don't think I'm ugly! ;)

Well, I have been searching the different programs to just reformat it myself. Maybe if you have ideas on which programs could do it, I'd be happy to print it on Letter Size paper myself.

Surely American printers have a setting that can do a 'fit to page'?
So you'd resize the A4 to US Letter and print.... ??

I know this may be horrible to some, however, if you use Adobe's Acrobat reader, when you print you can tell it to "Fit to Printer Margins" or "Reduce to Printer Margins".

I couldn't find a way to do this with KPDF, however I haven't spent a lot of time looking either.

saxonjf: A4 paper is almost non-existent around here.

Do you mean in the US generally or just stores in your area? A4 paper is everywhere here and I thought it would of been the same where you are.

@Mybunche: because they still use the imperial system in the USA, letter is the standard papersize. A4 would be something exotic and foreign, and there for just as hard to get as letter sized paper is for me in Europe.

I ran in to a problem
the printer "test page" would transmit the papersize to the old laser jet 5
it would ask for the A4 size paper [and tray] having none I canceled the print job. Oo prints fine when letter is selected. global settings or preferences did not help.

belboz,

That was very impressive. I've printed up issue 4, which was very compatible with US Letter size.

Perhaps if you could convert issue three, I would be most appreciative.

Belboz,

You da man.

You should submit those to the officials over at FC, and be made some sort of formatting editor. This American, using the English system of measurements, thanks you from the bottom of his heart.

By the way, I am not asking that the magazine be formatted only in US Letter format, I am asking for a Letter format be made after the original is done. For the benefit of us who do not have access to A4.

As this is the official fcm forum, I suppose they use to read what is going on here :D

If they have any interest in the conversions they can obviously put them on their site if they like.

Thanks belboz, i've passed your post to linuxgeekery (our web admin) to put your US Letter versions on the FCM site.

Thanks for that :)
