ello,
Not really a question, more of an observation. I have an ati card and, just the fact its ati means its not great with doom 3 (ati mobility firegl 2 128mb). But the strange thing is, after installing doom 3 natively on both windows and linux (kubuntu) it actually runs better (read smoother) in linux.

Does linux have better hard disk cacheing or something? In windows it jerks around sometimes when im going into new areas or aorund corners, but these dont happen on linux!

Now just wish the drivers were better so cedega ran nicer ;-) I love sid meiers pirates but i get a heck of a lot of gfx corruption.

Let me guess, WinXP and <=512 MB ram?

WinXP uses more ram in the background than Linux (at least that's what I have been told), so you end up having full ram and thus swapping much more often than with Linux.
Which is what you small 'hickups' are, I guess.

It isn't just that, Linux has superior memory management to any of the windows platforms. Also, the kernel is monolithic, which means device drivers are communicating almost directly with the hardware, rather than through several layers of security.

My Doom3 and UT2004 both run faster in linux than in windows.

I thought of that too! When I used Conectiva 10, I ran UT2004 nice and easy, and was able to start up some special effects, also. I have just quit Doom3 on Ubuntu because it was unplayable, and it's a native install. On WinXP I can run it, pretty playable.

BTW: Athlon XP 1700+ 512DDR GeForce FX 5200 128Mb

Could anyone help on that?
