what verersion should i download? there is no download for ubuntu distro.

yes, there is. Open "Synaptic Package Manager" (via System -> Administration)
Note that, in Synaptic Package Manager, you should have added "universe" to your repositories (settings -> repositories -> add).
If you click "search" button and you fill in "kDevelop", you will see the files you need.
Mark them for installation and click on "apply".
I suppose you need to have Kubuntu to get kDevelop to work, but I'm not sure (I'm also a newbie and I'm using Ubuntu - Gnome

suppose you need to have Kubuntu to get kDevelop to work, but I'm not sure (I'm also a newbie and I'm using Ubuntu - GnomeNo, you don't need kubuntu. I'm running regular Ubuntu, using KDE instead of Gnome, and KDevelop works fine for me. To install it, just remove the comments from all lines starting with "deb" in your /etc/apt/sources.list, and install kdevelop using synaptic. If you don't have kde installed already, it might be a huge download though (not sure how big).
