Hey everyone (Thanks for all the help I've gotten here in the last few months!)
I'd like to install Quake 4 on my Feisty machine, but I'm the greenest of newbs.
I tried (amongst other Google-borne guides) the 'proper' how-to here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Games/Native/Quake4), and checked all the threads etc, but no joy.
I've copied the appropriate data files from the DVD, but then can't start the installer from the terminal. It says sh: Can't open ./quake4-linux-1.4.2.x86.run
I went into the permissions of the installer and made it so I could run it by clicking the icon (cunning, or stupid? I just don't know!), and it tells me it has worked.
But when I type 'quake4' into the terminal there's a flurry of text, the screen goes blank momentarily, and then the display zooms in on the top left of the desktop, as if at the lowest resolution possible, and then all I can do to Ctrl+Alt+Backspace back to the login screen.
I can't even grab a copy of all the error text I know you guys love.
Please help, I am so pleased with Ubuntu, I am sure it has put off my heart attack years, but I would like at least to understand what's up.
Cheers, and peace-out yo
