Have you heard of Beta Marker (http://www.betamarker.com)
The site is basically Digg for softwares. it supports ALL popular OS's, meaning Windows, Mac and Linux.
The problem is, that the linux representation is quite lacking.
you can find almost any windows software you can think of, cause someone probably already submitted it. (it's completely user-generated) but there are hardly any linux softwares submitted.
The site enables you to track softwares you like, discuss versions, bury new versions that suck, mark up good applications, write personal recommendations. really the options are endless, but like i said, hardly any linux.

plus, it drove me crazy finding a proper media player for ubuntu, something that can show me the cover art and play all types of videos, it would have been great to just find it top marked in the multimedia category...
(i'm no linux expert, but have been on and off ubuntu for about 6 months)

now i know linux community doesn't like it when the windows crowd reigns supreme on any social site... :)

I've moved this to Community Cafe, since it's not related to development.

Whoops. sorry about the wrong sub-forum.

Meh, I don't like softpedia that much.
the text in that entire site is 10px dark blue on light blue. you can't tell immediately what's a google ad (and there are too many of those) and what's proper context.
plus, it doesn't give much power to the community. the site moderators obviously control what's going on. software ratings are 1-5 which is the classic "old" way that... well, i'm not saying anything is wrong with that, but the number of votes (accumulated (-1)-(0)-(1) option) is better to properly represent the people's preference.
in softpedia a software that has 5000 people voting 4.5 starts, and one that has 30 people voting 4.5 starts has the same rating...
Well, maybe it's just me, but i think betamarker has a much better model for delivering the information i want.

What do you think?
wouldn't you prefer the flash-buzzy web2.0 not because of the fab, but because it's simply a good idea?
or is this just a digg clone to you?
