not fighting games, but games with style like phantasy star online or devil may cry

I don't think there is anything quite the same but there are some options.
Regnum is a quite good free MMORPG. There is plenty of running about with swords to be done. If you want to spend the couple of £s for the game then Neverwinter Nights is more of an adventure game and has plenty of different options for different campaigns and online play.
My personal feeling is that if I was up for a good sword adventure I would run Zelda Ocarina of Time in Mupen64 but to do this you might need an analogue gamepad to make it playable.

SoulFu (http://www.aaronbishopgames.com/) is kinda neat. The source was recently released and someone built a linux port.
I linked to a preview video awhile back on UGA: http://gaming.gwos.org/comment.php?comment.news.76
You can grab the binary here: http://perpetuum-immobile.de/soulfu.bin
And I've made tar archive of the windows installer's extracted files including the data needed to use the above binary here: http://hikaricore.googlepages.com/SoulFu.tar.gz

Thanks Hikaricore! That Soulfu looks great! I just booted it up and it works nicely with my gamepad. I will have a proper play later but it looks nice and feels smooth.
Cheers for the great link! :)

i forgot to look at soulfu, last time i had checked, it was still in development. i believe its an advanced egoboo engine which in turn is based on the quake engine. the game video looked fun though. thanks for the links

Balazar might be worth your time as well. I haven't spent much time with it yet, but it looks like it could fit the profile of what you're looking for.

How are you guys running SoulFu with the bin?
I've done 'chmod +x soulfu.bin' and then run it but I get no printout, nothing. Nothing suggests the program does anything. The file is really small, 512kb.
Where do I get the other files needed to run? There's no error checking in the program if this is the problem. I assumed it was an installer.

you have to download the windows version, then extract it and place the bin file either in the same folder as the .exe files, or in the source. i cant remember which, then you run it.

I linked up a tar archive I made that includes the data files and the linux binary awhile back: http://hikaricore.googlepages.com/SoulFu.tar.bz2
I also updated it the other day when I posted about the SoulFu update on UGA: http://gaming.gwos.org
^_^ Enjoy.

I played through that game (the updated Masters-Quest, or whatever it's called) using my keyboard. Not very nice, but after you got a hang of it, sure it's playable :)
Maybe I used keyboard+mouse (for aiming), I can't remember.. :-? Good game, anyway!
