I now have a nice background in Grub thanks to the excellent Ubuntu Guide! My question is, is it possible to have a nice background during the boot process as well? Mepis has a nice background, and I'm sure it must be possible for my favourite OS too! :)
Search for splashy in the forums, you can have a bootsplash, which is likely what you are referring to. It's in the hoary customization section. It works well, but I ended up preferring to enter the vga = 792 and just having the text bootup in smaller font, so I could see all from one screen. Splashy is nice, but I'd prefer to be able to see the boot up text in a window of the graphic, that would be my cup of tea.

I don't mean to be a jerk, but... This is not the place to ask questions (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=22348)

also...

You shouldn't answer questions here, either (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=37151)

Of course you mean well, but giving people who ask these kind of questions in this forum only makes them keep doing it. Also, there are several pretty good (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=41709) threads discussing this already,

Please, the forum gives you the ability to do a quick search, an advanced search, and a quick way to only search a specific sub-forum. Please use these.

Again, I don't want to be a jerk, but I've seen the Gentoo forums being flooded with these kind of questions and it doesn't help the community spirit at all. But maybe I'm just jaded
