best card

I am about to get a nvidia. Can someone guide me to what card i should get? and what is going to be better on linux.

If you just want one that's going to do graphics nicely, try the Geforce 5500 FX from BFG, that's what I got and I'm quite happy with it, given the budget. Of course if you really want it for gaming, and really high end graphics, you'll probably need something a bit more costly.

I still dont know my budget but it will be around $200 - $250 US dollars.

Anyways, I dont do graphics, but a little video editing here and there. Not as a pro though.
I wanna do some gaming.
Unreal tournament, and halo, and stuff like that.

Ok based on your price you might want to look at the 6600GT. If you can push the price up a little bit just go for a 6800, not GT not Ultra, just plain 6800. The cheapest I saw was about 245, with PCI-e so if you have AGP it's even cheaper.

BTW I hope you have windows to play Halo on , because you can't play it on Linux. I'm not trying it be negative but I don't think any Microsoft developed games work on Linux very well :)

A simple post like "WHat's the best video card?" can't realistically be answered. You can have the greatest video board in the world, but without the rest of the system being up to par, you'll never use it anywhere near it's potential.

Post the specs of the machine, and your budget,and it will be easier to tell you what's best for your situation.
