I have only been able to use haiku in Vmware and qemu, it dies on Virtualbox. Sadly I can't test things like media because I don't know how to gain access to the files on the host. I tried to get beos-max to install but the cd was just a coaster when I tried to boot it. I can't wait to really try this thing though, they it seems to have some good ideas.

i try not to get my hopes up too much, but haiku does seem very promising.

networking to host is started by default with qemu! and yes, networking does work with the emulated device under qemu these days as well ;)
might i suggest you use wget from haiku terminal? (you'll have to write down the url on a piece of paper until proper clipboard support is supported though)

Too bad the images you get from daily builds are so small, you'll have to move everything to a larger BFS image if you wan't to add more than a couple of megabytes though....
Either way, it isn't really meant for day to day usage since it's not even alpha yet.

never tried it, or haiku, but the more os's the better, maybe try them at some point.

I am not sure if it is still available but Zeta was also based on BeOS.

The only thing I remember about BeOS was a teapot. Shows how much I cared.

I loved BeOS. I even bought GoBe Productive (fantastic!)...too bad it went the way of the dodo.

Oh yeah, definitely miss that ..

I really hope haiku starts roaring along so I can use it outside of an emulator...

I think I still have a copy of Zeta (which has unfortunately gone kaput now :( ) floating around somewhere.. That was ace with its nvidia drivers working OOTB.. lol MILLions of kettles rendering 363.6 fps :D

I only got to use BeOS briefly (after the company had gone under) and, amazingly, it would detect my winmodem (back in 2000-2001ish) 1/100 dial attempts. While this sounds crazy, it was pretty awesome at the time.

I didn't actually use BeOS back in the days that all of you miss, but I do remember seeing a claim that the BeOS could rotate a 3D cube with videos playing on each face of the cube, without becoming unduely bogged-down.

Funnily enough, someone I know saw a similar thing on Youtube, this time with Beryl and Ubuntu, and it made him decide to try and break out of Microsoft's lock-in and move to Linux.

Looks amazing, especially for its time.
It's interesting that Apple might have bought it at one point and made it the base of their next OS...

I wonder how it would have faired had not Microsoft abused its monopoly.

I do miss the time when multiple OS's and different machines were common... Although maybe we are getting there again ;)

I do agree that BeOS was a good operating system. There was however one inherent flaw. I need to use USB. That in my opinion was the reason it died.

Yeah I also miss BeOS but my fondest memories are still of AmigaOS or if you want to call it Kickstart & Workbench whatever. Never seen something perform so well with so little cpu & ram resources.
