hi everyone. i haven't been posting for a while, i've been busy doing other things. i started buying records, spending lots of time in the studio improving my mixing skills, etc...

could you help me find a dj name? it's still a long way til i can make mixes public (read: til i'm good enough), but i can't stop thinking about an appropiate name, so pleeeease help me :)

i'm playing breaks/breakbeat, mostly nuskool breaks
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakbeat

the name should be short, cool, catchy, and possibly have at least a slight connection to what i'm doing.

any people from japan here? i just love listening to japanese language, i find it very cool, so maybe some japanese word would make it. maybe "music maker", "entertainer", "funky"... or something like that (you get the picture) in japanese? or any other cool japanese word? not that the music i spin had to do with japan, i just find it cool :)

generally, ANY ideas are welcome, post anything that comes to your mind. should be a kind of brainstorming.

thanks a lot in advance!

ok, bablefish gives this japanese word/expression for "entertainer":
芸能人

how would that read with latin letters?
(/me is assuming that there are some japanese users around :))

ah, don't go with japanese. It's too trendy ;) Everyone is obsessed with Japan. You should get something fresh, perhaps from a different language, but Japan is so overdone.

You should make your DJ name have to do with BSD or UN*X systems.

You could be:
"The Morphix"
"The Knoppix"
"Da Yoper"
"Fedora Man"
or
"Redhat Maniac"

Ubuntu doesn't work well for a DJ name, unfortunately. DJ Morphix doesn't sound bad, and you've got Linux street cred right off the bat ;)

What does im-ka mean? Furthermore, how do you pronounce it? What's your name? You could always play on your first or last name.

i don't necessarily wan't a *nix name... but morphix sounds cool

im_ka is from my name: Imre Kálomista. i've been using it as my "online name" for years, so "imka" would be an option... but i hope to find something cooler

thanks for the suggestions so far! i need moooooooooore :)

i've looked up morph in the wikipedia, it's a character from x-men... pretty cool. comic, cartoon character name suggestions are also welcome.

morph also means: can transform into everything... suggests musical versatility imho, which is a good thing

maybe i should play around with "ix"?

dj morphix sounds wicked :D:D

but IMO I love DJ's who are creative in there name there is a local DJ battler here in Vancouver (I can't remeber) but I know his name had something to do with love and be kind to others. I think it was japaneese(sp?).

but I think morphix would be the best. too bad DJ Mystic is taken :D (my fav)

My vote goes for 'Sticky Slix'. I think it sounds cool and it should be easy to remember.

I don't think the name is the most important part... look at Dj Irene, it's only a name but you can't get tickets when dj Irine is mixing in some place.

Btw I thought of Dj Ermi... perhaps you should look in history, mother nature (she's being a good insparation source for humanity since we were apes). Because we can give you a bunch of name, but no one will match with you're lifestyle, nor with the way you think, nor your own history.

my only advice would be to not include "dj" in the name that you come up with

DJ Piledriver, perhaps?
That makes it sound like his hard-cut transitions are going to be bad :-P

*tries to think of a good name for a breaks DJ*.. I donno :-P
Ask around the Digitally Imported forum sometime, we have a pretty _huge_ DJ population there who tend to like helping people pick a name. Try the "DJs Fans and Freaks" forum.

A lot of them are even *Nix freaks so you'd be able to level with them there, too ;)

I like Morphix. But anything would work. I mean look at whoo kid. He has a fairly easy to remember name and is down right amazing with the way he mixes some things. Personally I do some digital mixes and as a joke with some people I know it's under the label DJ Push A Button because some kid called me that when I was sitting near a stereo and wouldn't change it. He was like...you are DJ Push A Button. so push a button already. It was pretty funny.

I would go with using your _real_ name. A simple one like "Steve Lawler" or "James Zabiela" sounds 20x better than "DJ Tiesto" or DJ Vibe.rant (made that one up :-P) et al. Plus, you get more recognition.

actually that's not a bad name for a DJ: Professor X. I'm not sure if there'd be any copyright issues.

O.o
Imagine and MC announcing him to a jam-packed club:
"And now, the moment you've been waiting for ... DJ .. *re-reads card.. weird face*.. DJ *cough*Professor*cough* X !"

That would be like the longest sounding name for a DJ ever.
