hello everyone,

since i just registered myself i felt like writing few words... h'anyway, i've been reading this forum for some time now, mostly looking for solutions to problems i encountered during my ubuntu-adventure; to my surprise i actually found everything i needed (or at least clear statement "it's not going to work" or "you'll have to wait till some one comes up with a working solution");

it was quite unusual for me since in my rather long time linux experience (also with long brakes between attempts to switch to linux for good... oh well) i've never seen such consistent community support; it's always been long and somewhat confusing documentation, rather not-user-friendly howtos etc.,

and don't get me wrong, i don't mind reading documentation (i'm one of those i-read-readme-files type of guys), but sometimes more human approach to problem solving (just tell me where to click, i don't care about binary code) is more than desirable

that's mostly why i failed to use mandrake, then mandriva along with few other distributions (actually including previous versions of ubuntu) - by the time that everything (well most things) worked the way i wanted them to work i got fed up with all stones in the garden...

so now i'm using a remixed version of ubuntu feisty fawn - linux mint cassandra; i wouldn't mind using generic ubuntu and install all the necessary stuff myself but i'm still struggling to get myself connected to the internet at home (i only use net at work) and as you know getting all the packages and installing them offline is a pain in the *** because of endless dependencies' issues; the mint team did most of the work for me and i'm happy with it; i, however, consider doing clean install of ubuntu once i'm connected to the internet at home;

this post is getting longer than it supposed to be (i tend to write long posts... ), i'll try to post something (not only questions) from time to time and i'll definetely be reading forum regularly

greetings,
whtvr

I have no internet connection at home, but I ordered the repository DVD set from www.thelinuxstore.ca, so now I can get almost anything, as long as it is in the repositories. (This includes all the other distros).
