Humility is simply a name of convenience so updates to Human don't overwrite Andy's work. It will be the new icon theme for Breezy and will be called Human. (I have an early copy. It's looking VERY good!)

where did you get it? How might we get it?

Andy sent me a copy; I think you'd better ask him if you want one... I'm not sure if he wants it given out.

I did try to contact him via email, although received no reply. Not to worry, we'll just wait till it's done... A quick question though. Is this "Humility" (to be named 'Human') set based on Etiquette??

From looking at the screens, absolutely!

It's all completely drawn by Andy. He may have been inspired from Etiquette, I dunno. But it's a completely SVG-based set, 100% scalable. Gorgeous!

Yeah, I got them too last night. They are sweet but incomplete right now. The stock icons are almost all there and they look awsome.

That looks friggin' sweet. If somebody wants to email a tarball of that icon set to public-at-starbreaker-dot-net, I'll host it. I want those icons, but I don't want to move to Breezy just yet.

just change your sources to breezy, search for the icons, download/install them, change sources back to hoary. Of course, it's probably ftp somewhere, if we new its name/version or package/version (ubuntu-artwork?).

Humility icon theme is in package gnome-humility-icon-theme which is in universe.
http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/h/humility/

If you have breezy sources in sources.list
apt-get install gnome-humility-icon-theme

Way to go Andy F.! They look very sleek, now we just need some über cool gtk and metacity themes...

Anybody know if anything's cooking there?

I am looking for user input atm for something a little 'special' ;-)

I find it wierd for that most of the progress on these icons is so behind the scenes, especially in a community oriented distro such as ubuntu. The default icons are very important in terms of usability and branding so its a critical part of ubuntu. I really like how the gentoo people have set up a community to work on lila (http://lila-theme.berlios.de/). I wish humanity and ubuntu's artwork in general was more available like that. I know their is progress, but the icon theme in particular still seems kinda secretive. With a community like that all the talented artists using ubuntu could help out and seriously increase the amount of icons available. Icon sets can and should be massive. When you install new programs you want their icons to fit in, and if there isn't one available you want enough miscellaneous icons that a suitable and unique one can be found. On top of that there are gazillions of mime types that need to be themed. There arealso lots of other little details that really make a theme shine such as a matching set of gaim emoticons. When the whole community gets involved this extra stuff can be created with relative ease. Making new mime type icons is mostly a copy and paste affair. Its a task many people just starting out with inkscape could help accomplish, especially if the final products required some sort of peer review by the creator of the theme. If a few talented inkscapers (is that what you call 'em? ) were able to join in as well the overall progress would move much faster.

Anywho, I'm not complaining, just suggesting. Art can be very personal and I definetly understand the many reasons one would want complete control over it, especially in the begining. Once it is officially released with breezy though I'm sure people will start making edits and new icons for their favorite apps immediately. Having a website like the lila center would make sure that all that various work is collected and [b[easily[/b] available to everyone else. It would also help organize what work needs to be done and prevent people from doing the same work.

I partially agree with you, but at the same time see the difficulties in a theme developed by many... Firstly, to get the consistency right would be a nightmare... some things wouldn't like right unless they are all created by the same person... I know this takes a LONG time, especially to get icons for EVERYTHING on a system, in the end I think it's for the better.

I understand the concerns about consistency, but in lila it is certainly not a problem. I think as long as there is a decent peer review process that weeds out or corrects submitted work that doesn't fit or meet the standards of the rest of the work, everything will work out ok.

Oh and I forgot to mention in my last post that these icons are lookin' great! Can't wait to see 'em in breezy.

If you're reffering to the screenshot by codemills, that icon is not from Andy Fitz, I made it. You can get the whole set (actually it's still WIP) here (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=22914).

woah....... wht did andy gave me is surely his set. apart from the firefox icon and some icons like the network/filesystem .. which surely are shiny CAUSE i was using THAT before applying humility.

u can no way say that the home/computer and folder ICONS are Shiny.. common. ](*,)

if it's in SVG, won't it be relatively easy to change the color scheme?

i don't know if the raw SVG would have to be released... it might...

those things look great, anyway

These Icons are very good. They are the best SVG icons I have seen for Gnome so far. Maybe some polish at some edges but already very good.

Now there are only left a few old Gnome default stock icons - which are very outdated and which have to be replaced...

And maybe a new color for the default Ubuntu Gnome theme ;) Or a new cairo theme like Blackrock with good colors would rock.

Do you know if these icons are already default in Breezy Colony 5 CD? I have always updated my system from an older version so I don't know if these are the new default icons!?

Hello,

I've been unable to get into contact with Andy since the Hurricane. Be that as it may: there is a much more complete version of this icon set available. I know this because I've been doing the clean-ups in all sizes/resolutions.

I have the most recent copy, but can't afford the additional bandwidth. If anyone wants them, reply to gonzo at worlord dot com (or here) and let me know where I can email them.

It would also be great if these could be hosted publicly.

What is going on with this icon set? I think I read somewhere that it will not make Breezy but that it will be in Dapper Drake?

Is anyone hosting the most recent copy Worlord is talking about? How about putting it up on gnome-look.org (http://gnome-look.org/) if it is okay by the creator and the set is complete enough?

And I guess this set is called Humility and that Still Life (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=22914) is another set?

:-k

I fully agree with you, Corey. I guess (and hope) that the Art Team wants to give a surprise to the community after all. New GDM, icon set, metacity theme, GTK 2.x theme, background etc. Please? ;)

Why does it use the old Human color and not match the rest of the Desktop? I've edited them but most do not bother, or know how. They just want it to fit by default. At least, I thought that was the idea :???:

I tried that, but apparently, the tar.gz is too large.

Anyone know a way around that?
