okay! i have got the live cd and i get to the installation screens using the alternate cd (i have an imac g5) and everything is fine until i get to the partitioning section of the install. it keeps telling me that i by partitioning i will delete all other information on the disk. is this true? what can i do if i just want to run linux and not exactly install it? i am using a family computer and am afraid to accidentally delete what is on it.

I'm confused now, which CD are you using?

By the way, you can partition without erasing. You just have to use the command line to do so.

Also, to test out ubuntu you just have to download the live cd instead of the alternative cd.
