hey there i've got a few years experience programming in C/C++ and Java but I'm new to linux and was wondering if anyone knows of good/preffered programs to code in. In windows i use microsoft visual and JCreator for Java. When i get the programs installed do i have to add libraries and profiles as required in windows? if so where could i find them? I experimented with anjuta with some old code but it didn't recognize the header files which i presume means i need to add some profiles and stuff. If anyone could help me get started that would be great! and then i'll be on my way to giving back to the community!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Alain

Where exactly do you need the help? Do you want to start off with an IDE or do you wnat to start with the command line? Have a look at the sticky for favourite IDE's. There is codeblocks, Anjuta, Eclipse, KDevelop, or you can go a bit simpler and use geany, gedit, etc. Have a look at the sticky, try a few out and see which one you feel comfortable with. There are plenty of great guys on the forum if you need help linking to libraries etc. Good luck. :p
