I have tried many times to burn a disc to install ubuntu on my imac g3 but have failed each time.
. I do not have a cd re writer
. My local libary with many restrictions does (windows xp)
. I have osx 10.3.9 installed
I dont know what to try next, i would consider buying a disc off someone if they would be willing to make me one, here is a pciture of the disc i have made....

It looks ok to me. Probably BIOS issue? I have no experience with PPC systems, so I am shooting in the dark. ;)

Macintoshes don't have bios.
I wish they did, It would make them easier to work with.

It would be great if you could get the CD, or get someon to burn it properly, but if you cant, another idea is to just install from the network, you dont need a CD or an ISO. for that.

Hi,
Network install is from the internet and ubuntu mirrors, works just like the hd-media except a different set of vmlinux initrd and yaboot, conf to go on your hard disk, and you dont need the iso.
But I am just looking at
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/purchase
http://www.thelinuxstore.ca/
I meant the uk one
http://www.thelinuxstore.org.uk/index.php?main_page=index&redirected=true&cPath=41_47
where you can buy ubuntu 704 cd/dvd, I think you are in the UK?

I think id rather do it the network way than spend money on it.
is there a previous thread i could look at?

I think you have seen this before, for a hd-media install, but there is very little differrence for a network install, except that the network install downloads around 600MB form the network instead of using the iso on your hard disk. So a fast/cheap network connection is a help.

Much of your previous thread is relevant.
However, whichever way you try, you may crash the iMacG3.
This means
(a) making backups of anything important on the iMac.
and being able to
(b) communicate by another computer
(c) run a live system or reinstal some sort of operating system so you can boot the iMac and try again.
Have you got a MacOSX or MacOS9 install CD/DVD?
If you are happy with that, you could go on with the remaining steps needed to confirm that the installer booting procedure will work using the hd-media files you have, then the network install procedure is exactly the same, but with a network install set of images.
I will be happy to help if I can.
