ok so heres the deal. ive been running ubuntu for over two years now but i want to get back into pc gaming and ubuntu isnt really the best with that. i want to duel boot so that i can play games on my windows partition and then do everything else in ubuntu.

i have a copy of windows vista ultimate edition, i was wondering if you could play windows xp games on vista or if they are not compatible. because if they arent then i will just stick with windows xp until more games come out for vista.

Go with Vista. I run it at home on my desktop and media center. I know that's taboo to admit on the ubuntu forums, but it's the truth. I run it at home, and I love it. It kicks XP's *** in so many ways.

If you already have a copy of vista I would just use it, I like xp better though.

most games should now work on vista and im sure all new games work on it

I have to assume by now both ATI and Nvidia have got the driver situation worked out. So I say if you already have Vista with you then go and install it.

I personally keep XP on my desktop since I don't feel like paying for Vista (while on my laptop it came preinstalled anyway). Not to mention it won't be for a while for me to update my videocard so there's nothing Vista can offer me.

If you want to, create a new partition and install vista in it, and see if you like it.

depends on the specs of your computer. if you haven't the latest and greatest, i would stick with xp.

on the same spec, xp runs faster
and with third party programs like google desktop you can get almost all the features of vista (maybe except aero, but who cares)
