In light of the recent updates in the past couple weeks, I noticed my machine crashes at least once a day. I have no idea what it causing it. The screen locks up occasionally, and sometimes I find the PC has reboot, leaving me with the login screen. Also firefox has been unstable as well. the window goes grey and I have to force close it.

It sure can't be connected with the updates since every update is being thoroughly tested by the Ubuntu team. It's really hard to tell where the problem came from because there is no info concerning your hardware, configs etc etc. It can be a messed up xorg.conf or occaisionally deleted system files. Try checking you hardware and having a fresh install.

I figured out that most of the issues were related to pushing my CPU up 200 mhz. Firefox still crashes a lot though :(.

Choose your words carefully. I've seen a few kernel updates that've messed up some installs. Go to the forums home and search update, crash, kernel and combinations thereof.
