The QCad partlibrary in the Ubuntu repositories is version 2.0.1.2-1-2.
I can download version 2.1.2.8-1 directly from the QCad website as a tar.gz file.
If I overwrite the applicable files with the new version, how does that affect my system updates?
I assume that my system would still think I'm using the older Ubuntu version. And I assume that if the Ubuntu repositories were to provide the new version some time in the future, that system update would just overwrite the files that I have overwritten.
Or, would it be better to remove the Ubuntu package version first, and manually install the library from the tar.gz file? The only problem with this would be that I might miss future updates from the repository.
I typically try to use packages from the official repositories as much as possible, just to make maintenance easier.
ideas?
