FREE VISTA!?!?!?!?!!!???!!!1

I fell onto this stuff not to long ago, i figured i would post it here.

it gives windows xp a major Vista face lift thoughout the entire system. :p

one of the reasons i use ubuntu is for a new face

but heres a pic of my XP runing the Vista pack.

you need Window blinds 5 for the glass effects, but i will just wait for somebody to make a peice of software that will do that 4 me 4 free. theres some of those 3d task switchers out there but they are still slow.

you can get the DL's from jcxp.net

ViStart is a seperate program to achive the start menu

it's great to see a new look on my PC, although it does have it's quirks

Well...you mention there are quirks...would it be possible for you to give us (me) and idea as to what some of them are?

Also, is this a RAM-hog? Is it completely reversable? Any playing around with the Registry? There is the VTP which apparently does the same thing - but I get mixed responses about it.

Thanks

this is the VTP, it hasent hogged up much RAM it uses about 10 megs,

it is just a theme, new startup logins and shutdowns, new icons, new cursors, new sounds, new wallpapers, new folder layouts, and 5 peices of software to do the sidebar, vista start menu, tranparency, new explorer, and Tooltips.

the quirks are that the sidebar crashes when you change the z-order, you have to change system files, the Orb, well you have to run yet another program to make the orb complete, otherwise it wont have the top. the Vistart.exe (i dl'ed extra) that changes the vista startbar sometimes looses it's hook and dosent show when you click the start button. also to get the aeroglass theme you have to use windows blinds, thats a memory hog. there are some glass programs, but they are all buggy as hell.
this is said to be reversable, but i havent tried uninstalling it as i am happy with it.

i think that the VTP is a great build, there are others i did try but they sucked, i like this one more. it certinly is refreshing.

yes. TVP is deffinately worth trying if you are ready to watchyour xp dissapear but cantbecause of a peice of software, the Vista start basr takes a little to adjust, but it is really awesome if you have alot of software

Two things I noticed about that "glass":

(a) That ain't glass, that's transparency you're using there. Vista uses true glass, which basically means it fogs the graphics behind the see-through area rather than just making it transparent.

(b) The taskbar has been rendered entirely transparent, which includes the text. Makes things harder to see as the white text is much darker than normal. In Vista, text and icons on the taskbar retains the same luminosity regardless of the level of glass.

Other than that, looks impressive.
