Hey,

the Title pretty much sums up my question. I tried to install a file via synaptic and I got a lengthy error [regarding package dependencies]. I tried to copy and paste the message that got inputed into the terminal window that popped up with the error, but I can't text copied [using Control+C].

If there isn't a log file for synaptic, than - that's a shame, and I recommend it to be incorporated into synaptic.

regards,
will.

It is included in aptitude. Read this THREAD (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=12602) for more information.

Ahh,
Thanks for the prompt reply ! I saw that thread before and noticed it applies to aptitude, which is just a frontend for apt-get. So then, do i just apt-get install aptitude and then, from now on, use aptitude instead of apt-get ?

I'm fine with doing that, but in the future, that would a big mess, for other end users who have apt-get problems and don't know what happened to their broken packages. Later on, they might vent their frustrations in the forum or the IRC channel...

*Forgive me, I'm just trying to look at the bigger picture and near future when ubuntu becomes even more popular among inexperienced people running linux for the first time....

regards,
skora.

Aptitude should already be installed by default.
You might also try wajig. I think it keeps a log in the /home path.
