Hi, I just got Ubuntu 5.10 up and running on an old Beige G3 of mine, and I've ran into a couple of deal breaking snags along the way.

I've been trying to move away from installing OS X on this machine for a number of reasons, most of them being speed issues. So after setting up BootX and installing Ubuntu 5.10 on it, I grabbed a kernel and ramdisk image from the wiki somewhere and got up to teh ubuntu desktop. Everything is running smoothly except for a few small issues that are keeping me from using it full time.

The first issue is that I cannot see an ethernet card anywhere in the network settings. Ive tried looking for help, but i can find a thread about it or anything on the web. Also there is no sound, but if I cant get that working, I dont mind too much. And I also cant get a higher resolution than 800x600. Its been a while since ive played around with ubuntu, and linux overall, and I now theres something calle x.conf, but i dont know how to configure or access that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

5.10 is very old, you should try the latest (unless some special indication against it) it usually works much better on PPC - usually on linux it's not true that more recent systems are more demanding on hardware.

for ethernet, perhaps see this https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/internet/C/connect-to-internet.html#modems-adsl-pppoe

I am not sure it applies to all ethernet conenction types but it worked for me
