Hi,

I'm looking for some good 3d cad software I can use for civil engineering design. There is a possibility at my work of us buying autocad civil 3d, but I'd like to find out if there are any opensource (if at least cheaper!) options first. I've seen a few packages mentioned on the forums, but nothing as comprehensive as what I'm looking for.

Basically, I'm after something that will let me easily design a ground surface, design pipe networks, check for pipe clashes, and display in 3d.

Are there any other civil engineers out there using linux? What software do you use?

I can't say anything about cheaper, but I think there is a linux version of pro-engineer. The other cad packages I've seen on linux seem a few beers short of a 6pack to me.

Thanks for the reply.

Isn't pro-engineer more for mechanical engineering though?
