I was just wondering where I could get some Windows compatible files to turn my desktop more Ubuntu-like. I currently oonly need the sounds, shell, and tool/task/start/launch/whatever bars. I tried to download the Ubuntu sounds to replace the defualt Windows sounds, but they came in some weird .deb file format.
And in case you were wondering why I'm doing this, it's to help me use Ubuntu without actually changing Windows too much. That way I may be able to convince my dad to let me switch over to the real Ubuntu.

if you have a reasonably new and powerful PC, how about running Ubuntu in a virtual machine? that way you can try Ubuntu without changing Windows.

No, a virtual machine would make my computer go 'splodey. And I don't want to wait 4-6 weeks to get the CD. Besides, this is fun! :)
That and becuase I play a lot of games, I don't wanna deal with Wine.

i don't think dressing up windows to look like ubuntu will be the best way to convince your dad. download and run the live-cd, this will give him the full ubuntu linux experience without changing anything on your windows install or changing anything on your hard drive. if he is happy enough using the live-cd, then see if he will go for a dual boot
best of luck

you could always make ubuntu look like windows. its easier to do with kubuntu than ubuntu. i switched my parents without them noticing. slow tweaks is how to do it.

You can burn your own live cd, sweetie. Some have livecds but on thumb drives. In linux there is always a way. Generally, though, non-coders like you and I are ignorant of "the way." :)

A difficult way to do it is to install an alternative shell like lite-steps , they have a gnome theme , i bet they have an ubuntu theme as well
An easier option is to install an ubuntu theme , you will need a patch to allow you to install themes in windows
it will look like this (http://img523.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1js6.jpg)
you can get the theme here (http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9830)

You could try Wubu. It's a great program that allows you to run Ubuntu in Windows without messing with any files. Best of all it's really simple.

XP was very ustable on my mum's HP laptop so I just wiped it installed Ubuntu spent like 10 minutes showing her how to browse the web, print her photo's and play movies and left her with it, that was a little while ago now she's never looked back.
If you have a USB stick handy with a few gig on it you could always install Ubuntu on to that,
