My mother uses dialup. She asked me what she needed to be able to receive phone calls while on the internet. I told her I had no idea. Any suggestions?

ADSL? A second phone line?
Er - telepathy?
Seriously - I'm not aware it's possible with one phone line, but I'll be interested in the answer if I'm wrong.

I remember seeing a box from Phillips or Panasonic(one of the P's) that was supposed to divert the line from the PC to the phone when getting a call, but can't seem to find mention of it anywhere. Shejust got a cheap laptop and only wanted basic internet service like People PC or something similar. She won't pay more for a second line. She may be out of luck:D

With dialup you dial a phone that gives you internet through a modem. Your line will be busy. The only way is getting ADSL.

I haven't used dial-up for a couple years now but when I did I used a v.92 modem. If your phone service supports call waiting and you have a v.92 modem, you can pause your internet connection while you take a phone call. At least I could back in '95.
I was running Windows XP then. I don't know if you can do this with Linux.
