I shall start with Cannons Park, and of course we will play by the 1879 Escalator rules.

Can anyone enlighten someone like me who's been living under a rock about this game?

It's like a cross between "Blind Jimmy" and "Whippet" but using the Canadian rules it can often end in a similar manner to "More Tea Vicar?"

Hope that clears it up for you.

Monkey Boy, I recognise someone who has clearly played before!

You have forced me to Hanger Lane!

Here you go. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mornington_Crescent_(game))

Sorry, not my kind of game. Just pointing out what it is for those who don't know...

Not the old Jubilee/Central Gambit surely? I wasn't born yesterday!

Parsons Green!

Deal with that!

Well, you could always look for a copy of "NF Stovold’s Mornington Crescent: Rules and Origins". Seems to be out of print though....
Then again, there's always "The Little Book of Mornington Crescent by Tim, Graeme, Barry and Humph" - kinda hard to track down though....

Roger_Melly
June 17th, 2007, 01:54 PM
That's ridiculous Chris. Unorthadox indeed! Bond Street has 8 escalators, even reduced service cannot account for that.

I believe you are stymied. Mansion House for me!

Look I don't mean to quibble but you should really check out the 1879 Escalator rules.

My apologies i was playing by the 1930s Barlow rules.
I withdraw my previous statement with upmost apologies, and my current selection is... Elephant and Castle.

Roger_Melly
June 17th, 2007, 02:07 PM

Roger_Melly
June 17th, 2007, 02:08 PM
Dollis Hill. Bit of a dark horse Peter. No escalators there. You know your stations clearly. You are not a ringer I hope!

MonkeyBoy
June 17th, 2007, 02:11 PM

Roger_Melly
June 17th, 2007, 02:17 PM
Monkey Boy, you have commited a clacker as Dollis Hill was called by Peter-K. Arbuthnots 2nd parallel and Absolute block working terms apply to you I'm sorry to say.
And as for you Chris the Monkey you play like a rank amateur. Amend away we shall see at the end.

My apologies for invoking loop inducement (forgot the 1962 addendum, lost my head)...I humbly offer a retraction of my previous play, and bid Pentonville Road.

That's the problem with using the 1879 Escalator rules, they don;t actually have any provision for the escalator breaking down! Which, as everyone knows, happens all too often at Mornington Cresent...................

......... ooooooooops
