Is there anywhere to find a kernel that is compiled for speed for mac hardware? Since Apple's all have specific setups I was wondering if there was anyone who made kernels just for mac hardware. They could have one for the first gen macbooks, 2nd gen macbooks, etc. It would only have your hardware compiled and could give a bit of a boost. Does this exist anywhere?

linux compiling is pretty simple. You gotta get source and later compile it. If you did a search you would have seen it.

You totally dodged my question. Compiling a kernel is not difficult I just wanted to know if there was someone out there that took out everything not needed for a specific apple model so that I could just download the .config or compiled kernel for the model I own. This would cut down the hassle of me trying to find which modules and options are needed in the kernel while stripping it down to the bone. Does such a kernel exist?

This might be a start. I know there is at least one kernel config on there.

i have to say that configuring the kernel to me also is some big voodoo and if someone has a good conifg i also would like to have it. i think a good config is a good startng point to learn from and get behind the voodoo :)

If you'd have followed Dirk's link, there's a section in that HOWTO that directs you to the Gentoo wiki for an up-to-date config (http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Apple_MacBook/Configuration_Files/Kernel) for the Macs.
