I'm not sure where this goes so admins please feel free to move this.
So I started messing around with my distro and found Enlightenment, but alas I couldn't work it. But today I found the courage to dive into the shallow end of the pool and hoped everything turned out. Here's what I found:
Here are somethings I found out:
if you left click the desktop and you don't see the USER MENUS then you need to regenerate the menus. Heres those steps:
1.middle click the background ENLIGHTENMENT menu should come up
2. Click maintenance
3. click regenerate menus.
If you accidentally killed one of the pager screens fear not, I have your solution:
1.Middle click the background
2. select restart enlightenment, it's that simple
If your stuck, or lost, there is a good helper available, Middle click and select help,
I know these may be small in contribution, but someone out there is looking for these answers. More things I find to be posted later.

Average jo user here, love k/ubuntu and gently exploring all its fine wares. And while
I am actually very fond of my ubuntu, kubuntu and crystal desktops...I discovered E17 enlightenment
desktop and found it truly glorious/fab/cool/good looking etc.
However exploring round the themes I seem to be stuck on Japan 2005 theme
and the configuration menu's wont let me change back/anything. Which is sad for
for a visual junkie like me.
I had a similar problem with night bling a couple of weeks back, but it cleared with an update.
But this time the Start/Dock (windows/mac refugee sorry) does not work either.
Any ideas for an easy fix, I tried removing and re-installing...but that was a real headache and had no effect.
Maybe its the price to pay for a techno-dummy dabbling into a manager thats in heavy developement
by small team of computer wizards.
many thanks in advance
should I be asking this on a enlightenment forum? where?

hi Seeker
many thanks for the postive help :)
I am using E17 which on the surface seems radically different to e16, and the menus appear to me very different too. E17 looks much prettier. (if I have done it right pic of my desktop attached)
I managed to fix my problem though by purging the Japan theme, which worked this time...so I am happy again:D
My Linux wizard buddy (who usually digs me out of my computer problems) politely calls me a 'tester' as I tend to fiddle with my computers until they go PoP!
have fun

Good for you, some people may have the same problem at one point, if you could write a little post about what was wrong and how you fixed it that would be great.

My computing style is a bit like a trillion amoebas randomly coming up with the complete works of shakespeare - very hit and miss. Kinda still banging the rocks together this end and not at all sure how i reached success.
Basically after tinkering with the Japan theme my menus anddock froze, firstly I reinstalled enlightenment (this did not work), I purge enlightenment from my system and then spent of couple of days trying to reinstall it in various ways without a lot of success...until hey presto apt-get install E17 worked and I got it back up. But with the frozen theme back on my desktop :( ... so I simply went into synaptic and purge the Japan theme and now everything works. :D
Not a great explanation. I dont think the Japan theme is necessary the problem, as previously I had similar problems with night bling and that theme now works ok. I am kinda aware I may have future similar problems and I will face resolution with the kinda of memory that goldfish are wrongly accussed of.
I totally accept that enlightenment is in heavy development
