Hi, i just want to install Beryl to allow me to use the cube and other effects, i seen all the other guides, but with all the different guides i didn't know which one to use, and in the end i had to re install ubuntu, and i saw mention of compiz and a theme manager, what are they, and which one is better. i have an X1800, i don't have the Beryl, programs installed,(the ones seen in the add or remove porgrams part) i also don't have the ATI Driver that is in the add or remove programs section.

my xorg.conf says this,

================================================== =====================================

You might try this download and install Autumatix2.....if you go to there site its a deb package that you just double click to install.
Run Automatix and install the ATI drivers.
Then look around for a How To for installing XGL for you version of Ubuntu.
Do plenty of research looking at different How To's.
You need to use version 0.2.0 of beryl anything Newer may not have XGL support.
Im running this version with XGL and it works very well and seems to be completely stable.
Ironically the only time I had beryl crash on me is when Im here using Firefox.
If you can get Berly working stable its very impressive and fun to use.

My biggest problem is which guide do i use, the guide has to have step by step information 2, i mean i was pointed to several different guides, i need the most reliable and considered the official guide.

P.S. what is compiz and what is a theme manager, i thought they were all there (beryl, compiz and theme manager) were all the same thing.
