Hi crazy kids. Many of you know that the Sound&Video menu becomes a little cramped when you install ubuntustudio-audio. We're trying to address this now.
Heres pics of our 1st go at it.

Now before any of you go off on a rant about how things are still thrown in the "Sound Editing" entry you must remember that this is a tricky thing to make happen and making more categories gets tough. Still give suggestions. Just watch how far you push. ;)
A .deb is attached (should work in any Ubuntu) but beware. It WILL reorganize your Sound&Video menu entry.
Before you install back up this file. In a terminal:
sudo cp /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu.backup
There ya go. :)

Nicely done. :)
How about decreasing icon sizes by 25% and likewise with font sizes in those sub menus.
Makes everything look a little neater/smaller, and is acceptable because, well, they're sub menus. ;)

Thats not gonna happen. :) That stuff is controlled elsewhere. We're just reorganizing where things show up.

Just a suggestion, you could possibly give the submenu a special icon like a folder overlayed with the Ubuntu Studio logo or something just to make it look nicer.

What about making your own menu, and having that open **px to the right when an icon ("Audio Editing") is clicked? ;)
I guess it's not quite the same. Ah well, just a thought. :)

Well, there's probably going to be a lot of tweaking around with that stuff to make it look better than the standard Ubuntu Studio Sound/VIdeo Menu....you probably know the one I'm talking about. The first time you loaded it up and looked in the menu and got slapped offy your computer desk chair ;)
I like the look of this, it would be a lot more organized than the current state that it is in, and still gives you the more commonly used playing utilities right in the first menu. Not to mention, within those sub-menus, people who don't use thinks like midi related, will most likely end up going into the menu editor and just unchecking them so they don't show up, so of course that will shrink with a bit more customization.
All in all, it looks great :)

The submenus will have icons that use a standard naming convention.

Hmmm, this is looking pretty good. You've still got a ton of apps there. I noticed you're specifically moving .desktops into the submenus. What happened when you use the Audio and Video categories separately? You can also provide .directory files to give icons/translation of the submenus.

Considering the amount of applications in there, it might be better to divide Sound&Video into a Sound submenu and a Video one. ;)

Thats easier said than done. The way we currently do it we only touch the apps in our meta. The way you suggest we would have to take into account ANY app that would go into Sound&Video.

Hi. Yeah I like that, it's much better, though still too many on my screen as I still have to scroll, but it's great. Thanks.:D

I just had a thought and have no idea if it could be done but here goes. How about grouping all the underlying Utilities together like the bits of Jack etc. And then have the Programmes themselves like Rosegarden and Ardour grouped together. Would that be possible?

Ok. So this will be implimented in Gutsy. The 2 new sub-menus will be "Audio Production" and Video Production".
We have support for about 15 or so languages now. If you would like to see if your native language will be supported or would like to add a entry please see THIS (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=514883) thread.

We only focus on the multimedia production side of things. ;)
