im new to linux and just tried putting on beryl from using this http://ubuntu-se.org/smf/index.php?topic=8913.msg67326

Installing seemed to go well and I followed everything perfectly but after restart and logging in with xgl nothing seemed to happen

except when loading everything after reboot, the background was a brown color and the cursor was a "X" opposed from the usual black background and normal cursor.. after it loaded everything up, it was back to normal though.

i am using a hp pavilion ze2000 with a ati radeon 200m video card

anyone have any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated

Do you have the Beryl icon in you system tray?

Taking quick look at that tutorial, it seems as if you might not have Beryl set up to run at start up.

Try typing "beryl-manager" into the terminal after starting a Xgl session. If Beryl works, then you just need to add it to your startup programs. You can do this by going to System>Preferences>Sessions.
