I was woundering if anyone know of a StarCraft Clone for Linux?
I dont mind if I have to use the original files from StarCraft as I have the CD, its just that StarCraft is in my opinion the best game ever to be created and I would love to be able to play it natively under Linux ^^

Any help is apretiated

You can get cedega. Cedega works with over 300 windows games. http://www.transgaming.com You have to pay a little and get a bit of support too or you can also compile it from CVS for free.

cedega works perfectly with starcraft except for the text displayed if you go to battle.net This doesn't matter to me because I only want to play it with friends at my home or at lan parties.

would be great but is not possible. They would have to port it. And since it's an old game that works already nicely in linux and blizzard wants to make money they problably won't.

to bad, I hear Wargus might get support for StarCraft later om however... it does require the original files though.

for some reason I cant get it running in Cedega and I cant figure out whats wrong, first it complaints that theres something wrong with my language settings (been doing so ever since my last install) and that there is "no debug information" for several of dll's and exe's, I remembet getting it running when I was using Mandrake so I dont understand why it wouldnt run now

i use the newest cedega 4.3.2 together with the fully patched broodwar. The only problem I have sometimes is that it locks up during starting (while the music keeps playing).

I've also got those language messages. They are probably not relevant for not being able to start up starcraft.

don't use sudo to install starcraft and its patches. If you did .. just chown your dirs back.

I'm subscribed to a forum and there are a couple of members that work for Blizzard. They are working on porting star craft to Linux. From what I hear it only works in cedega, It is a hell of a game.

Can you post a screenie of what you mean by text being messed up if you go to battle.net

You can get cedega. Cedega works with over 300 windows games.

Thats what they say... just take a look around and you'll notice that "working" doesn't mean that it's playable...

starcraft is playable. It even works with network games.

I used cedega 4.3.2 but I read that the newest cedega has better starcraft support

I second the Jedi Outcast/Academy games. They run perfectly.. even a tad better.

The Unofficial wiki for Cedega has a pretty good list of REAL WORKING games and lists issues and stuff (and how to tweak, or what version you need to get it to work).

Linky: http://digital-conquest.ath.cx/wiki/index.php/Category:Working

Some experiences that I have:

1. Practically any game written using the Quake3 engine will usually work. The Jedi games mentioned earlier, Star Trek Elite force 1 and 2, Alice, Soldier of Fortune 2, etc..

2. All Blizzard games made AFTER STARCRAFT will work. Diablo 1, Warcraft 1 and 2 will NOT work. You can use Wargus/Strategus to make Warcraft 2 work, and Dosbox for warcraft 1. There is no real way to get Diablo 1 working, however.

3. The windows version of Heretic II will work. The Linux (Loki) version of it will NOT WORK with Ubuntu. Strange, is it not?

4. Just because it's categorized as "Working", doesn't necessarily mean that it will work for you. "Temple of Elemental Evil" is stated as "Working", yet I cannot get past the intro movies.

5. Give up on ANY GAME that uses PUNKBUSTER. Since a previous patch to punkbuster games such as Battlefield 1942, Call of Duty, Quake 3, etc; Punkbuster will think Cedega or Wine is a cheat or hack, and kick you from a PB-protected server. That means, if you are a BF1942 player, like me, you're booting windows to play multiplayer due to the fact there is literally NO non-PB servers. It also runs considerably slower in Cedega than in Windows. Very sad, indeed.

I have now taken this thread completely off-topic. :-P

Well I didn't get Starcraft to work, but I'll try the new cedega version soon :)
Quake3 can be run natively of course, so there is no problem with punkbuster :D It is even possible to install quake3 with a cd of the windows version.
