So now that I have beryl installed, I found a decent theme. All is good. A few things are missing though. Like those side bars and all the other cool things. I am looking for a statbar that would go on top of my screen to tell me my network and hard drive usage, memory available, etc. If there are any other cool things to pimp out my computer, please share.

if you run kde, as said, superkaramba rocks

gnome you can choose either gdesklet or adesklets (you could probably run superkaramba also but im not sure, havent tried it in gnome)

other things to consider since you are running beryl/compiz you could look into kiba-dock and avant

eterm/aterm running transparent and borderless/titlebarless on your desktop is also pretty frickin sweet

then there's the every so fabulous Conky (a personal recomendation if you are running a non-kde system and cant use superkaramba)

On Gnome, the program you're looking for is called gDesklets. You can find it in Add/Remove Programs, under accessories I believe. Just search for it. It has some issues with Beryl though. There are work arounds in the forums if you look. The key seems to be having gDesklets load before Beryl on start up or else it won't look clean.

I heard you can drag items onto avant window manager and they are supposed to stay, but I can't get it to work, anyone have any tips?

My personal recommendation on GNOME? Just right-click on a panel, click Add to Panel, and choose the System Monitor. Change its preferences so it shows everything you need. It's much simpler than anything else, at least for that particular usage.
