Ah, you see, our cunning plan worked and you've found a bug. Users
shouldn't need to worry about totem's sound stopping working if you've
got a sound events turned on.
(This is actually #1481, in another form).

Many of these things should 'Just Work', that's the goal. So, while we make
that happen, putting these things out of sight (but keeping them around, to
use from the command line) means we can find out all the kinds of problems
that users encounter. Additionally, this dialog is not particularly easy to
understand, so exposing it in the user interface is not a net gain.

We've disabled the advanced submenu, because we'd like the preferences menus
to be simple and one-level. If you go into preferences:/// in Nautilus, you
can see the icons left behind in the advanced section. :-)

What if the default doesn't work and the user doesn't know either the
command line or gstreamer-properties? I don't think useful things
should be stripped out simply because you assume they won't be.
It is useful if someone start esd and need to hear what plays on totem.
Maybe there should be an Advanced Properties submenu in the Desktop
properties for all the capplets that are considered advanced and
rarely used.

I think the reason we did this was because that capplet is somewhat
advanced, and actually doesn't really need reconfiguration on 99.999% of
systems; the defaults work just fine.
Those who would know want to change things would know how to do it,
either by running gstreamer-properties manually or using the gconf
editor.

Hi,
the menu Desktop Preferences doesn't have a Multimedia System Selector
(gstreamer-properties) after the regular install. All the apps are
there but it's nowhere to be found with simple point and click.
