Hi there,
my computer is very very very very old and I'm in desperate need of a slim and quick graphic viewer like irfanview is for Windows (that is actually what I miss most after I've migrated to xubuntu a fortnight ago): something that shows pictures/photos and also allows some changes/manipulations but QUICKER than GQview and the Gimp. Does any one have any idea what I could take?

GQview is actually a lot faster than most people think. The problem is that its standard zoom quality is Hyper.
Got to Edit>Preferences and change the thumbnail quality to Tiles or Nearest. Now click on the Image tab and change the zoom quality to Bilinear or Tiles.
I find GQview to be slightly more powerfull than gThumb. Unfortunately, its features are a bit hidden away and often overlooked.

true GQView is faster, but I can't print from it as it doesn't recognize my printer (USB-connected) and I haven't found any feature allowing to snip out bits and pieces from picture and paste them into other applications though. I have to admit I'm still missing Irfanview, it was much faster than GThumb and had much more facilities then GQView, I didn't have to guess about resizing, just put in dimensions in cm or inches, no hassle with percentages or pixel, easy and simple slideshow creation and everything fast on my 128MB RAM dinosaur! Is there any other programme than GthumB?
