View Full Version : Steam lags up my internet!

I'm running steam through wine 0.9.37 and games work fine; graphics, sound, framerate... it's all good. However, whenever Steam is open I get horrendous lag which quickly disconnects me from IRC AND the game of cs 1.6 I was playing! I have NO idea why it would do this as Steam itself is not downloading anything (or shouldn't be).

I'm only on a 1mbit connection, but that shouldn't be a problem considering I remember playing cs 1.6 on dialup :o

Any ideas?

It's using bandwidth to check for updates and to log on etc

well sure it uses bandwidth to do that, but not as much as this...

Steam is known to be a resource hog
They had a lot of 99% cpu stuff until early 2007
