Mac + Ubuntu + Windows + Ext. HD

I'm fairly new to Ubuntu (well, no. I AM new to Ubuntu), so I have no idea to get the following setup:

My computer running a triple boot: Macintosh and Windows on my internal hard drive, courtesy of Boot Camp, and with Ubuntu on my external hard drive. Both Macintosh and Windows are already partitioned and installed. So.... how?

Booting Ubuntu from an external drive is no trivial task on the new Macs; Apple has more or less forbidden booting from USB! Search through this forum and you'll find many threads discussing it. I have not followed any very closely, so I cannot offhand say whether any met with success. Good luck to you, though, and please let us know your experience.
