i recently started using ubuntu...int the synaptic device manager i saw Quake 2 i then marked it for installation...and everything downloaded but couldn't know how to install it because i couldn't get the icon...
well is it a full or demo version

I believe it just installs the linux binary for the full version of the game and that you'll need the data files from an actual copy of quake2 to play.

It does tell you that in Synaptic!

I quote from the package information:

This package contains no data files. You will need to either install the
commercial data from the Quake II CD-ROM with the ``quake2-data'' package,
or install some free data files.

Yeah just as a side note, you'll find that with heaps of games in Linux. They'll basically be a linux version of the game engine.

Same thing with Doom, and other games like Space Quest and stuff. You'll need a copy of the game (or shareware etc) but the thing in the package manager will be a replacement for say doom.exe.

How do you use the Quake2-data package - it has no icon that I can find?
