I was just wondering, what are some of the best free games for Linux (any genre)? Also, is there a "Worms"-type game for Linux?

Cards game, or reflexion like Mahjongg, Sudoku, etc are great free game.

There is also some (little) 3D games. One I like is Neverball
http://icculus.org/neverball/#screenshots

One I like also is Powermanga

For what you asked (worms-like) there is one at least, it's wormux
http://www.wormux.org/wiki/en/screenshot.php#Wormux_0.8_beta1

But lately I discovered more worms-like games. I think there are two or three different games around the concept. One is in development currently and seems to be really fun but I can't remember the name.

Do you mean free as in beer (no cost, gratis) or free as in speech (open source, libre)?

Either way, some good FPS games: Enemy Territory, Cube, Nexuiz

OpenArean is a nice FPS imo but if you like to run at 100mph Nexuiz is the fps for you :P
RegnumOnline is a nice MMORPG give it a try its simple to install no darn compiling :)
Boson is a nice RTS or BOS Wars or if you wanna try something new Globulation 2, its a fun little game just takes forever to win.
All the tron games are fun imo....now I just have to try an actual racing game and find a good one :)

GridWars 2, a Geometry Wars clone. I think it's kind of illegal but it's darn fun anyway.

It always seems like wine can handle blizz games pretty well. They keep it clean and simple so if they don't I think we should still be playing it shortly.

Armagetron is awesome - doesn't work too well over the internet though, and star fighter is pretty cool, also I'm a big fan of Tux racer aka planet penguin racer
