Does anyone here have experiece using Photoshop CS2 on Ubuntu with Wine? I hate to abandon the investment I have in Photoshop just to spite Microsoft.

Then dont. It's been done, but with many bugs. There is SO many other topics like this, im not sure it's ever really worked out through wine. Why not have.. Windows.. and Ubuntu.

PS CS2 is kinda a so/so thing in WINE. I believe there has been progress in CrossOver with it though.
Probaby your best and most free(ish) bet is to run a VM ontop of linux with something like VirtualBox (http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads), as it will run perfectly in the VM (where you'll obviously need to be running some version of Windows). What's great about VirtualBox is it now has better support for using physical drives along side virtual dives which is huge when it comes to being able to access your files. It's also not huge and combersome like VMware.

Gimpshop makes the GIMP Interface pretty close to photoshop. Thats another option.

portable photoshop (cs2) runs well n wine.
You can google instructions on how to make your copy of photoshop portable, or obtain a ready made copy from the net.
But nowdays I prefer to use krita..
